Hardware

To support the desired architecture, I will rely on a Proxmox VE (PVE) Host powered by the following hardware:

Component Model Price Link
CPU Intel Core i5-14400 147€ Amazon
Motherboard MSI PRO B760M-A WIFI DDR4 137€ Amazon
RAM KINGSTON Fury Beast 32 Go DDR4 3200 MHz 49€ Rue du Commerce
PSU Be Quiet ! Pure Power 12 550W 80+ Gold 83€ Rue du Commerce
Cooler Be Quiet ! Pure Rock 3 Black 35€ Rue du Commerce
Case Lian Li Lancool 217 130€ Rue du Commerce
SSD (OS) Crucial CT 1000MX500SSD1 1Tb owned Amazon
NVMe 1 WD_BLACK SN7100 500Gb 49€ Amazon
NVMe 2 WD_PC SN720 512Gb owned Recovered from a laptop
HDD

Total price (without drives) : 630%

I started off without buying the HDDs because of their price. Instead, I used 1Tb drives recovered from old PCs I've had lying around for some time.

For refurbished hard drives, the main retailers I looked up are:

  • ServerPartsDeals: Seller refurbished drives with limited warranty (usually 90 days).
  • GoHardDrives: Many choices, extended warranties based on drive condition.
  • Amazon Resale: Some choices, more relevant for high-end drives such as Barracuda, Ironwolf, etc.

Building

This was my first time building a computer, so it was important to me that I took time and care to install each piece correctly without damaging any. Therefore, I followed this Linus Tech Tips guide on YouTube.

Next Steps

Now that the hardware is assembled, the next step is to install the operating system.
